How I Drive Traffic To My Site. Part 1. Are You Pinging?

Hello again. Jose Castel here with Part I of how I drive traffic to my site. For those of you who have been attending Alex Jeffreys’ course, the first and most obvious method of driving traffic to your blog is to visit other blogs and make some comments. I made one comment on Dean Holland’s bog and introduced myself on Traci Moore’s site and I soon had 6 visitors (all Alex’s students).   I plan to add those blogs to my list and visit their sites to make some comments.  I will probably say a few things about this post I am now writing and I would not be surprised if that is how you came to read my article.

I ask in the headline: “Are you pinging”? Some people might know what I am talking about and others might not. You might also be interested to know that Wordpress blogs are built to be search engine friendly. Every time you write a post and every time someone comments on your blog  a ping mechanism automatically sends a signal to the web crawlers that there is new content on your site and this moves you up the ladder on the search engines.  You often hear Alex say “I have no idea where all my traffic comes from”. Well this is one of the reasons for his increasing traffic.

If you would like to see what I am talking about, log in to your blog, click on “Settings” all the way on the right beside “Plugins” then click on “Writing” over on the left just to right of “General”. When the page opens scroll all the way to the bottom of the page and you will see the last section headed “Update Services”. You will see an explanation and below that a box with one web site. This site automatically “pings” ie notifies, the search engine crawlers that there is new content on your blog. Every Wordpress blog has this feature automatically working for you whether you know it or not.

Now, here is where I have found a way to maximize the pinging from my site.  I have added several more similar pinging sites to that box which exponentially multiply the effects of the one site that Wordpress gives you.

If you would like to get my list of extra sites, leave me a comment with your E-Mail address and I would be happy to send it to you.

See you next time,

Jose

    Hi Jose,

Great post about pinging and that should help people.

I have put a post on my blog about traffic tactics that have worked for me so far. One of the best has been Squidoo. I only have one lens on there at present but it has been a high traffic source.

My youtube video has also had a lot of hits and driving traffic to my ppp. I haven’t used twiter to it’s full potential but the tweetmyblog plugin is very effective (details in my post).

Let me know what’s working for you!
    All the best
